The truth is that different strategies work for different people in how to get out of a state of overwhelm or stress into a place of feeling grounded and relaxed again. Today, the invitation is for you to create your own "Treasure Chest" or "First Aid Kit" of strategies that work for you. The problem is that when we get overwhelmed, the thinking part of our brain goes offline and we go into reflex mode: fight/flight/freeze. You have probably noticed that it is very hard to come up with any good ideas when overwhelmed. The trick is that you have to be prepared for moments like this. You have to make your personal collection of strategies visible so that in a situation of overwhelm you can see them in front of you. We attached two options of creative worksheets: if you would like to draw a collection of strategies as symbols, feel free to pick the "Treasure Chest" Sheet, if you would like to write down a list of your favorite strategies feel free to use the scroll - whatever feels more inspiring to you. Or feel free to create your own poster that you can hang up on your wall. If you want to look through a collection of strategies to get ideas first, feel free to look at the attached handouts: Strategies for Anxiety (in English or Spanish). Feel free to give yourself a few days to try out the different strategies or invent your own. The more you personalize your favorite Self Care strategies the better they will work for you. TODAY'S ACTIVITIES:
- Feel free to print out the attached Worksheets
- Experiment with the different Strategies for Self Care during the day and start collecting your favorite personal strategies on either the Treasure Chest Worksheet or the Scroll Worksheet or make your own.
- Feel free to take a picture of your collected strategies and send it to: firstname.lastname@example.org or 303.859.5778. We will send the best ideas out on email to inspire others.
